Peg City Pinup Pageant // Winnipeg Tattoo Show 2018

I can’t believe it’s been 3 weeks already since The Winnipeg Tattoo Show. I had the incredible honour of hosting the Peg City Pinup Pageant which took place during the tattoo show.

Easily the best part of the weekend was meeting all of the girls competing in the pageant. The pinup and rockabilly scenes are very small here in Winnipeg. Any chance to meet new like-minded people is welcome in my books!

The pageant ran over two days. On the Friday the girls competed in the interview and formal wear portions of the competition.

Saturday was the swimsuit and talent portions. Then the judges crowned the first Miss Peg City Pinup!

I was pretty nervous about hosting. Even though I spent many years acting in my teens and 20s I’ve never hosted an event before. What acting did teach me is how to deal with nerves. With some breathing exercises and some quick meditation I managed to control how nervous I was feeling. And after the interview portion I calmed down and the rest of the weekend was smooth sailing!

Can we talk about my outfits for a second?! For once in my life I didn’t worry about what to wear to an event because I was dressed by the BEST vintage shop in Winnipeg: Wildwoodrose and pjVINTAGE! Peter from pjVINTAGE dressed me in the incredible black ensemble on Friday. I felt sexy and so fierce. I was channeling my best Marlene Dietrich.

On Saturday Patti from Wildwoodrose Vintage dressed me in the most glamorous peach-nude 1930s bias cut gown. She restored it specially for me to wear on stage. On Friday I felt sexy and fierce and on Saturday I felt like an old Hollywood movie star. I have never felt more glamorous in my life.

The entire tattoo show was incredible. There were so many artists and vendors and events all weekend. There were even events for kids (under 12 got in free with a paying adult). If you are curious about getting a tattoo going to a tattoo show is a great way to scope out a lot of artists, talk to some without the pressure of making a consultation appointment and watch people getting tattooed.

I had an awesome time from beginning to end. I even found some time to get some fresh ink!

My new addition: the rose on the left. Thanks Gordie! I love it!

If you missed the show this year, don’t worry. We’ll be back next year! That’s right, I said “we”. I’ll be hosting the 2019 Peg City Pinup Pageant! I’m already looking forward to it!
